The film investigates the dark side of Philip Markoff’s (Jake McDorman) life, which he led while preparing for a promising future as a doctor and a wedding to his fiancée, Megan McAllister (Agnes Bruckner). The 24-year-old Boston University medical student committed suicide in August while awaiting trial for the 2009 murder of erotic masseuse Julissa Brisman. The Craigslist Killer is based upon the story of accused Philip Markoff, the Boston University School of Medicine student who was charged with armed robbery, kidnapping, and murder. Markoff killed himself in the Nashua Street Jail in August, 2009 while he was awaiting trial.
The film, based on Herald contributor Michele McPhee’s book “A Date With Death,” re-creates the sensational details from the crimes that rattled Boston and the Craigslist community. Megan McAllister and Philip Markoff are getting married coming August 14, 2009 however if Boston police is to be believed then Phil Markoff is a Prime Suspect in The Craigslist Killer Case and was arrested last night.Philip Markoff, the Craigslist Killer who was engaged to Megan McAllister, was found dead in his Nashua Street Jail cell.
LOS ANGELES (LALATE) – Megan McAllister and Phillip Markoff (photos below) were set to marry when Markoff was arrested. Now Megan McAllister and Phillip Markoff are portrayed by Jake McDorman and Agnes Bruckner in a new Lifetime special tonight, appropriately entitled the Craigslist Killer.
Julissa Brisman was just 26 when the Philip Markoff, the Craigslist Killer, murdered her. When the Julissa Brisman case first broke, defenders of Markoff said he was a “beautiful person inside and out” who “could not hurt a fly”.
As broke exclusively on LALATE in 2009, at the time of the murders Megan McAllister and Philip Markoff had a wedding website Megan-Philip.com. LALATE screengrabs of the content of the website website revealed Markoff and McAllister were to marry August 14, 2009.
The couple’s first date was in 2005. Three years later they were engaged. On their website, they boasted about their first encounter.
“We met while going to college at University at Albany together. Megan was a senior and Phil was a sophomore. Our apartment buildings were right next door and we didn’t even know it until we met one day at the hospital. We both started volunteering at the hospital on September 19, 2005. We volunteered at the Emergency Room together and spent about 2 months pushing stretchers down hallways and bringing blood and urine samples to pathology together before our first date on November 11, 2005.”
The couple even designated the March of Dimes as their charity of choice for their wedding.
Shortly after Markoff’s arrest, McAllister issued a news statement defending Markoff. “To me and my family, he is a loving and caring person and in the eyes of the law and constitution, he is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.”
Markoff would be indicted for three cases – Julissa Brisman and Trisha Leffler included. The District Attorney issued the following statement to news about the Markoff’s encounter with Brisman.
