Or you’d just let life go on with its usual way, swallow that bitter pride that blocks your throat and accept that everybody dies, inside and out? Those are choices ladies and gentlemen, not riddles.
We can actually relate that to Lights Out, an American television series focused on the drama of boxing which stars Holt McCallany as Patrick “Lights” Leary, a former heavyweight champion boxer who, despite his aging considers a grand comeback.
An aging former heavyweight boxing champion struggles to find his identity again after retiring from his well-loved sport: boxing. You wouldn’t expect him to be still fit and strong and as hard as a rock, because after years of wear and tear, contusions, fractures, broken noses, bleeding brows, Lights gets diagnosed with pugilistic dementia, a disorder that affects long-time boxers who suffered many blows to the head, which causes heartbreaking gradual memory loss, and constant headaches, it’s second to Parkinson’s in the long line of boxers’ disorders due to wear and tear. Now, old and broke, Lights struggle to support his wife and three daughters, most of all his dwindling finances that puts his life shaky on the balance. It’s up to him whether he must decide whether to accept the brutal and intimidating job of a debt collector (which has been since time immemorial), or return to the ring for a comeback to become the people’s champion once more.
Last week on Lights Out Season 1 Episode 5: The Comeback Lights Leary and his wife Theresa were once again at odds. She is concerned about their situation which worsens every day. His wife is worried what he might do next. And as his problems get more physical, Lights feels the deepening and ravaging effects of his dementia.

Lights Out, from Executive Producer/Showrunner Warren Leight (In Treatment), stars Holt McCallany (CSI: Miami) as an aging former heavyweight boxing champion who struggles to find his identity and support his wife and three daughters after retiring from the ring.
Financial problems leave him at a perilous crossroads – battling the urge to return to boxing or reluctantly accepting a job as a brutal and intimidating debt collector. Catherine McCormack (Braveheart) co-stars as “Theresa Leary,” Lights’ wife who is finishing her medical residency; Pablo Schreiber (Law & Order) as “Johnny Leary,” Lights’ brother and business manager whom Lights put through college; and Stacy Keach (Fat City) as “Pops,” Lights’ father and former trainer who runs the boxing gym owned by Lights.
